It does not have to be planters. We can use old containers for growing strawberries. We can ask our children to go out and learn planting strawberries for fun. It will not take much space and it will look gorgeous for our lawn.

Choose the Seeds

First of all, we have to determine the variety of strawberry that we want to grow. There are two basic types of strawberries that we need to know before starting gardening.

The summer producing strawberries are able to grow early, mid, and late summer plants. Meanwhile, perpetual strawberries are everbearing berries for all seasons.

For beginners and home garden, it is recommended that we grow the perpetual strawberry seeds. It can last for five years. Also, it can create abundant harvest throughout the year. As we decide to pick certain types of seeds, we can directly buy the seeds right away.

It is important to buy the seeds with good resistance against weather and diseases. The disease-resistant seeds are usually more expensive.

Get Prepared with Soils

Before planting the strawberry seeds, we need to make a plan. It is good to grow the seeds in the spring or autumn. Besides, we have to prepare sunny and sheltered areas.

The Fertile and settled soil is recommended. We have to improve the soil initially with organic compost or well-rotted manure.

Set the Space

Planting the strawberries need a lot of spaces. We have to give sufficient space for better cropping. We need an easy access fo watering. When planting the seeds in the ground, we can give 45 cm apart for each seed. Meanwhile, the row space should be at least 75 cm.

Using a trowel, we must dig a hole that can accommodate the roots of the strawberry seeds. The crucial thing is that the pot-grown plants must be on the top of the soil surface.

We need to set a large hole for the roots. Yet, we should not plant the seeds too deeply. Also, growing the crown too high over the soil surface is not healthy as well. The seeds can dry out and end up dying before growing any leaves or flowers.

How to grow Strawberries from Seeds in Planters

Strawberries will grow well in hanging baskets. We can also plant them in the patio planters or containers. Limited spaces will not be matter as we have a healthy soil for it. The planters are good for protection.

The containers will keep the seeds away from slugs, animals, and other problems. It will give so much lively look for our patio and veranda. When the fruit harvesting comes, our porch can look fresh and gorgeous.

Water and Feed the Strawberry Seeds

During the dry periods, we have to water the seeds frequently. If we grow the seeds in hanging baskets, we can feed the seeds every two weeks.
